Who are The Tangled Chords?
The Tangled Chords are a local Brainerd Lakes Area Classic Rock Cover Band. We play songs that are fun to play and hear and keep the enegy level set to 11! Our blend of Classic Rock and Roll from the 1950s to the late 1990s include fan favorites from artists such as Carl Perkins, C.C.R., Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bryan Adams, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd just name a few.
We take each song and make it our own resulting in a uniqueness that you'll be sure to enjoy. We also mix in a few of our original compositions to add to the fun!
"We are Here to Play" & "Too Much to Do" - A pair of Original Songs by The Tangled Chords that you will likely hear!
History of The Tangled Chords
After a 15-year hiatus from the band scene, Jonny convinced James to dig out his gear and start playing bass again in late 2011 while working together in an effort to “Rock the Crosslake Parade” for the business that they both worked at the time. With a few months of rehearsal, they managed to put together a small song list in early 2012, and along with the efforts of a drummer and singer, they formed the band “ZZ-Ace”, the “Coolest Hardware Store Band” known to man (at the time). After several years together, the band eventually dissolved, but Jonny and James kept on jamming. In the winter of 2017, they worked with Eddie to put together a small three-piece group that would eventually become The Tangled Chords. The Tangled Chords formed in early 2018 and started without a name until July when we had a contest with friends and family to help come up with a suitable one, which eventually became The Tangled Chords. To date, we have played in Crosslake, Brainerd-Baxter, Jenkins, and Nisswa at local breweries, private parties, and other fun events. After five years in the band, and due to other obligations, Eddie had to retire from the music scene. But that didn’t stop James and Jonny from keeping the music alive! With the help of B.O.B.B. on percusion and backing tracks, they band “Just Kept Riffin!” In 2023 Rawni joined the group with lead and backing vocals on several songs to round out their presence on stage to this day. In early 2024, Gregg joined the band on drums and backing vocals to fill out the sound of the band. After nearly two years of rocking the drum kit, Gregg needed to move on in early 2026 to other projects with the possiblity of returning for selected shows when scheduling would allow. In early 2026, Paul added his rhythmic guitar to the Chords allowing Jonny creative freedom to scorch thier sound with more ecclectic lead guitar. With B.O.B.B. back at it keeping the beat, the band keeps on keeping on!
You’ll see us around the Brainerd Lakes Area, and beyond!
And Remember…
JUST KEEP RIFFIN'!!!
